Ronald Baroy
MSN, APRN, ACNPC-AG, CCRN, CMC, CSC

Mr. Baroy’s journey began in the Philippines, where he was raised by his grandmother while his mother worked abroad to provide for their family. In 2010, he joined his mother in the United States, seeking to reunite with her after thirteen years apart and pursue the promise of new opportunities and the American Dream.

Arriving with a marketing degree, Mr. Baroy initially faced challenges amidst a recovering economy, spending six months unemployed before landing a job as a filing clerk—a position he left after just six days due to unfair labor practices. Adjusting to life in a new country brought feelings of depression, loneliness, and culture shock. Encouraged by his mother, a nurse, he transitioned into healthcare, starting as a caregiver and gradually advancing through roles like
nursing assistant and eventually earning a second bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2014. He went on to specialize as an ICU nurse for six years before pursuing a master’s degree in nursing, specializing in adult acute care nurse practitioner, which he completed in 2023. This year, he began his new role as a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Nurse Practitioner.

Reflecting on pivotal moments, Mr. Baroy credits his mother’s dedication to patient care as his inspiration for entering healthcare, a field that has since become his passion and source of purpose. Overcoming obstacles such as starting afresh in a new country, dealing with culture shock, and rebuilding his career from scratch, he attributes his success to resilience, hard work, and perseverance—values he believes are deeply ingrained in Filipino culture.

When asked about his proudest achievement, Mr. Baroy humbly acknowledges his entire journey—from restarting his life in the US to achieving his second bachelor’s and master’s degrees—as a testament to his determination and growth.

Mr. Baroy’s Filipino heritage has profoundly influenced his journey, particularly the resilience and strong family ties inherent in Filipino culture. He attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his mother and grandmother.

Engagement in professional communities like the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the California Nurses Association has provided Mr. Baroy with opportunities to network, stay informed about industry trends, and foster a sense of belonging.

Looking ahead, Mr. Baroy advises aspiring Filipino American professionals to be patient, resilient, and diligent in their pursuits, emphasizing that success comes through hard work and perseverance.
